QUOTE OF THE MONTH: The aim of rehearsals is to “Break the Playwrights Seal”. This is not an intellectual process! The activity of rehearsals must now demand physical application of an order that leaves no part of the mind free. – Jerzy Grotowski
FROM THE PAGE TO THE STAGE:
In this VIDEO Peter speaks about the actor’s challenge to transcend the written material on the page and bring it to LIFE on the stage.
“There is no technique for an audition. That is utter bullshit–and an attempt by a charlatan to make a buck. Talent is talent, and even if you are young and unlearned in the ways of an audition, a good director will recognize this and he or she will help you to present what you have. If you are auditioning for a bad director, you are at the lip of a special Hell you are better off avoiding, and no one gains anything, even if it leads to employment. I want–I almost demand–a special place in Hell for those people without resume or distinction who take money from those who wish to act. Who are they? I see their ads; I hear their names from young people who study with them. No one knows who they are: They have failed to achieve the rudiments of an art they now claim to teach. The student should demand much more from the teacher, and ask ‘What have YOU done?’ “–Arthur Penn
